Today, we learned how to use clustering as a brainstorming strategy before responding to any writing prompt. Think about today’s practice. How did clustering help you generate ideas, examples, etc for the prompt? What part of the clustering process was most useful to you, and do you think you would use this strategy when planning an AP Lang essay? Explain.

Prompt Response: Clustering helped me generate ideas because it organized the topic and subtopics into a graph and allowed my brain to formulate related evidences and details for each  sub-topic that I could use to formulate into body paragraphs. The most useful part was being able to visualize all my reasons and the components for my body paragraphs and this will help me on my AP Lang essays because it will make it easier to come up and structure my evidence and commentaries. 

Summary: Today in class we took notes on brainstorming techniques for essays and focused on the clustering technique. We went over a topic together on the best way to get a job and came up with reasons and details for each bubble.

Reflection: I think clustering will be a helpful tool for assignments that are over long periods over time and not just one session such as in class because it is a little tie consuming at first but I think it will be a good way to organize my ideas and formulate well-structured paragraphs for my wiring.

I swim 90 minutes before school and then 3 hours after 5 days during the week and then another three on Saturday. Think about a time when you made a claim or gave an opinion, but someone asked you, “Why?” or “How do you know?” Describe the situation. What evidence did you use to support your point, and why is explaining your evidence just as important as providing it?

  Prompt Response:  One time I told my friend that I thought that the character Serena Van Der Woodson from Gossip Girl was the worst character in the show. When she asked why I thought that I explained that Serena was extremely selfish, manipulative, and always tried to make herself appear better than everyone else when she was just as toxic as the rest of her friends. Explaining each of these points with specific instances in the show helped me demonstrate to my friend why I believed she was the worst character and afterwards my friend also agreed with me.  Summary: Today in class we evaluated a passage and looked at the prompt "Is there ever such  thing as a 'good kill?'". While we didn't begin writing, we looked at the OJ Simpson case to see what explaining evidence looks like and why it is important to support your claim. Describe a time you felt completely lost.

  Prompt Response:  One time I felt lost was in AP Precalculus every day since the beginning of school. The teacher goes too fast and doesn't explain the information enough for me to understand and I feel behind and can't compute the work. It is definitely the most lost I've been in a class in highschool and I am in the process of getting tutoring because I don't like feeling behind or incorrect. Summary: Today in class we revisited types of claims such as claims of fact and claims of value. We went around brainstorming different claims of fact and ended the class off doing a worksheet about claims of values by picking a topic and creating a list of criteria going with the claim you made for that topic.  Reflection:  This worksheet was helpful because it cleared up any confusion I had about claims of fact because we learned that claims of fact don't actually have to be facts because those can't be argued, they just have to sound like facts.
