Select the vocabulary word from today that you think will be most useful to you in the future. Explain what the word means in your own words and describe a situation in which you could realistically use it.

 Prompt Response: I think the word from today's vocab lesson that will be most useful in the future is idyllic. Idyllic means very peaceful or perfect which I think can be a good word to use in my AP Lang essays when comparing two things or in my SAT vocab section because it's a word I've heard before but never fully understood in context. 

Summary: Today in class we wrote down vocab words and for our assignment we wrote our own sentences using each words. Afterwards, we did two practice sections from the book using the words in context. 

Reflection: I think the vocab assignments are very helpful because it broadens our vocabulary to more professional words to use in our essays and by writing our own sentences I think helped lock in the definitions because we were creating our own writing based on how we interpreted the meaning of each word.

  Prompt Response:  This might not stand out heavily, but between me and my friends I feel like I spend the most time participating in a sport. I swim 90 minutes before school and then 3 hours after 5 days during the week and then another three on Saturday. Think about a time when you made a claim or gave an opinion, but someone asked you, “Why?” or “How do you know?” Describe the situation. What evidence did you use to support your point, and why is explaining your evidence just as important as providing it?

  Prompt Response:  One time I told my friend that I thought that the character Serena Van Der Woodson from Gossip Girl was the worst character in the show. When she asked why I thought that I explained that Serena was extremely selfish, manipulative, and always tried to make herself appear better than everyone else when she was just as toxic as the rest of her friends. Explaining each of these points with specific instances in the show helped me demonstrate to my friend why I believed she was the worst character and afterwards my friend also agreed with me.  Summary: Today in class we evaluated a passage and looked at the prompt "Is there ever such  thing as a 'good kill?'". While we didn't begin writing, we looked at the OJ Simpson case to see what explaining evidence looks like and why it is important to support your claim. Describe a time you felt completely lost.

  Prompt Response:  One time I felt lost was in AP Precalculus every day since the beginning of school. The teacher goes too fast and doesn't explain the information enough for me to understand and I feel behind and can't compute the work. It is definitely the most lost I've been in a class in highschool and I am in the process of getting tutoring because I don't like feeling behind or incorrect. Summary: Today in class we revisited types of claims such as claims of fact and claims of value. We went around brainstorming different claims of fact and ended the class off doing a worksheet about claims of values by picking a topic and creating a list of criteria going with the claim you made for that topic.  Reflection:  This worksheet was helpful because it cleared up any confusion I had about claims of fact because we learned that claims of fact don't actually have to be facts because those can't be argued, they just have to sound like facts.
